My BTS was sold to me as a male. I'm looking to get a female to breed him with. How do I know if Indy's a male & how do I know the sex of the one I get (I'm hoping to get a baby & raise her)?

The best suggestion is to take Indy to your reptile vet. The vet can try to determine his/her sex.

It is very difficult to determine for the caretaker - some people probe, other folks say they pop.... we won't do either.

Once you do have a sexed blue tongue - it is sometimes a tool for sexing others. We have one male northern that is very accurate in telling if another skink is male or female. He reacts badly when the skink on the other side of the glass is a male!

Once you do determine what yours is, you will need to purchase a mate from someone who has a proven animal - either male or female. It is almost impossible to sex babies - so you would have a 50/50 chance if you bought a baby.
