Blood Spots Pre- Shed

janeothejungle Nov 13, 2006 12:17 PM

So my male lesser is about to shed any minute now but when I picked him up a minute ago I noticed he had these little blood spots on his belly scales (under the layer of shed). Has anyone else heard of this happening and, if so, why? He is in fine form otherwise and it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Sorry for the crappy pic, I'll try and post a better one soon.

Cheers,
Kat

Looks more like scale rot from the pic. If so, it should be gone with the shed but check your husbandry and cleanliness.

Definitely not a husbandry issue. They are small blood spots on the lower edges of the scale, almost like seep from the scale itself. I've never seen it before on my other BP's. Apologies for another bad pic but he is a squirmy little bugger...

one of my ball python's has the same thing. i've been waiting for mine to shed to see if it goes away but she hasn't shed for the past two months.

He shed it right off. I'm still not sure why they appeared but I used a little polysporin in case it was fungal/bacterial in origin. Either way, it's gone and his belly is clean as a whistle again.
