combat between male & female?????

boobubba Nov 13, 2006 08:13 PM

has anyone witnessed aggressive , combative behavior when introducing a male to a female. it reminded me of 2 males in combat. i am positive it was 1.1 not 2.0... the male being the aggressive one. any thoughts?

Sometimes aggressive breeder males will combat with a female before he breeds her. I have a couple males like that. It's nothing to worry about (as long as you have 1.1 and not 2.0.........it's hard to get babies when you have 2 males breeding).

I have one male who "combats" with any object that he brushes up against - water bowl, hidebox - at the height of the breeding season when he is introduced into a female's cage. And woe to the female who doesn't lie still! Hence, I have to remove every object from a cage (except the female!) when I introduce him. Still, if the female attempts to move around while he is courting her, she may get thrown against the side of the cage. I can make movements with my hand outside his cage when he is in this condition, and he will often throw his body against the glass toward me.

I have a male that acts like that, but only with one particular female. She's produced offspring from him 2 years in a row, but he goes WILD whenever I put them together. He'll thrash around for the first 15-30 mins then calm down and breed her. Really took me by surprise the first couple times.

good to know. the funny thing is it started with my pastel male and my spider female. i was afraid he was going to kill her so i separated them . a day later i introduced my het pied male to her and the same thing happened. last night i tried an experiment. i put a pastel female with my het pied male and everything was cool. i replaced the pastel female with a different spider female and he went ballistic again. i pulled her out and put the pastel female back in and he was cool again. is that weird or what?
