i cant say what kind but why is he so mean? whats he doing? good luck!

medusah Nov 14, 2006 10:44 AM

To me it looks like either a high quality Hypo, perhaps Extreme Hypo from the SK lineage or maybe even a low grade Caramel!

Either way, looks good!

you are not the first or second to say he looks like a caramel, wouldnt that be crazy. Now I have to come back to reality. I have personally NEVER seen a live ghost until now so I had nothing to compare him to.

coldbloodaddict Nov 14, 2006 12:18 PM

Pretty sure they look nothing alike...

LOL! Nice! Update us if he figures out how to strike sideways and backwards. That might be worth seeing.

I say OG because he looks enough like my own Orange Ghost, but Oranges, Yellows, and Butterscotches are all compatable as I understand it (though I haven't found that out first hand), so as long as he fits into one of those three categories (which are really more like bloodline names), he should be what you think he is.

At 150g, he's probably just scared out of his mind - whether or not he eats when he is supposed to. When I bought my male from a breeder, I was told that he had never been handled except to remove him from the rack box long enough to clean the enclosure. He had always been a great feeder. I had him shipped, so when I got to handle him for the first time, he was definitely spooked. Since you already have yours, What have you done to try and tame him?

With mine, I left all of his cage lights off for the first week. I picked him up daily, but really only long enough to see that he was still alive (and that I hadn't thrown away $1500). Basically, I would slowly approach him with my hand, from behind his head after removing his hidey-hole (I use modified terra cotta flower pots). He was usually sleepy, and I could pick him up before he got too freaked out. I would pick him up, look him over, and about the time he started getting stupid, I'd just set him back in his cage with his hidey-hole. I did this every day for the first week, gradually increasing the amount of time that I held him. At the end of that week, I was really proud of myself (HA HA) because he had calmed down enough that I could slowly walk around the house with him, and hold him for about 5 minutes before he got stressed... that same day, my husband decided to hold him while he was playing video games for about a half hour... the snake got stressed, but ever since, he's been ridiculously tame. I think he would actually be willing to eat while I hold him if I wanted him to (I don't want to) - he is that tame.

That worked well for me. Good luck with yours - he'll probably be mean forever if you don't work with him. Don't offer him any weapons okay?

I have been very good he has been in shed since I got him, today when I noticed he shed the picturefest began, he also ate today after the picture fest he is a mean little bugger though but he eats

Looks pretty similar to Joe Compel's Butterscotch ghosts. They do slightly resemble caramels too...check em out on his sight...

would be to breed him. Im just really nervous about raising this guy up and breeding him to my 4 NERD OG het girls only for him to throw an incompatible ghost clutch of babies

rwoodyer Nov 14, 2006 07:46 PM

I seriously doubt that would happen, the only incompatable ghost lines I know of are the green ghosts and citrus ghosts. I haven't heard of any "orange" ghost lines not working together...

There is always the possibility he is not genetic though...

not because he might not be compatable but because despite being very pretty he is not as pretty as a NERD. The back ground color on him is too close to a nice normal in my opinion. If he were mine I would use him in a seperate project and get a NERG orange ghost for your girls. That's just me though. Good luck with him.

johnavilla Nov 15, 2006 09:53 AM

by back ground I meen the lighter color, not the hypoed out part that is normally black.

You obviously don't work with Ghost I would not hesitste to breed him to your hets you will get Ghost and very nice ones at that your ghost will get nicer as it ages and he looks very nice now.

There is nothing wrong with your ghost. Whoever that was who said you shouldn't breed him to your NERD hets doesn't seem to know ghosts!!

Good Luck with all of them

I would bet my collection that that animal is perfectly compatible with the NERD line and will throw beautiful babies. I wouldn't worry about breeding him to your hets. Good looking ghost!

johnavilla Nov 16, 2006 11:33 AM

I don't work with ghosts. All the nerd line babies I have seen looked much more "ghostly" that this one does so I assumed that they were just inherently nicer. Plus in most morphs the color fades or gets more drab. I'll take your word for it that I'm wrong though since you do work with them. Got any pics of nerds that look like this one?
