New gopher pics

KenCasstevens Nov 15, 2006 05:01 AM

Just bored so I thought I would take some new pics of my albino Applegate gophers I picked up in Daytona. I love the pic of them raising their heads at the same time. They raise their heads up a lot when their crawling around. Is this something other pits do?

I got this girl in a short while back from Zach Currie. She is a little over 4ft long, and a beautiful pastel orange color.

I often tell people how Pits seem so intelligent as they hold their heads up and inspect their surroundings. Just one of the many cool things about them that makes them so interesting. Friendlier ones here at my place actually crawl up to the edge of the cages in this way that says "hey man...take me outa here for a few" LOL. Pits rule Tom Stevens

I know what you mean. They do seem intelligent. I didn't realize they did the head raising thing before I bought them, but I think it's really cool. Something different that seperates them from the others.

Ya know I have about 40 Kings, some Milks and Corns and a few Pythons. I love them all. However when I play with the baby...and of course the adult Pits...I have to ask myself why I do not have more of them? I think they're the greatest snakes going. I hope they pick up in popularity...and I really think they are going too. As with other types of snakes...there's color and patterns a plenty to cater to everyones taste. They're just awesome Tom Stevens

I'm beginning to see that. I do in fact have a list of some pits that I hope to aquire in the not so distant future. I would love to have a pair of leucistic So pines, a pair of blizzard Sonoran gophers, and a pair of N. Mex pines. That's just the quick list. lol. I'm sure more will follow. Got a question for you Tom. Are there any black pines that are solid black like a MBK? Most of the darker ones I've seen still have a hint of pattern, and are really kind of dark brown.

In a way they're similar to MBKs as far as the amount of color and even pattern. The Splendida is so closely related some think they're even the same...but a MBK with pattern is usually suspect to being an integrade wether it is or isn't true...just one of the things snake guys often disagree on. I have seen extremly solid Black Pines and others that have some brown pattern on the last third of their body. I believe some may be integrades?....but they're all very cool looking. I love Sonorans...and honestly many people who buy the Envy line end up owning all 4 morphs in their collections. Soon this line will expand with even more possibilities. Every time I ship some Pits out I miss them before the box is even sealed LOL. I am expecting some new snakes here for me too...so that will make up for it Tom Stevens

I can attest to the pits addictive nature. I soon will have all four morphs of sonorans I got from Tom. Fortunately there small for now so I can hide them from my spouse!
Beautiful animals, thanks Tom.

LOL. That's funny Mike. Wonder how long that will last. Sounds like you have a great collection. Let's see some pics. I'm fairly new on this forum, and would love to see as many pics as you can post. Thanks.

Only kept Gophers as far as Pits go, so I can definitely tell you that the "head raising" is definitely a Gopher trait. My Great Basin does it, my little Pacific does it, and my San Diego used to do it. Very attuned to the environment outside of their tanks. Just one of the many things to love about Gophers.
