Rip Off ???

mt Nov 15, 2006 08:36 AM

what's the story with leos ?? it appears to me that leos are the "pyramid letter" scheme of old, meaning a "get rich quick" (at the expense of others) mentality prevails here. I have seen prices drop drastically in an incredibly short period of time. I have also seen MANY (as in way too many) animals in chain pet stores that are the genetic equivalents of animals posted for sale at a fraction of the price. IMO there are only perhaps a small handful of breeders that have exceptional stock which warrants the higher $$$. Seems sad to me that while/because these animals appear to breed like rabbits and are very cute, they are falling victim to greed ...

This should be posted on all forums if you're worried about the animal welfare of a breeder's stock. It seems everything in our society now is a get rich quick scheme, but hey, if you don't want some one getting rich, don't help a breeder out by buying his reptillians. If a breeder makes no money, he won't be able to keep up the breeding process for long. The animals in chain stores are ill kept and raised, and many have been stressed out long before they are ever sold to an individual. My tortoise alone, who was rescued from Petco, had 29 different internal parasites. Not only this, but he was housed with tortoises from 3 different species. Chain stores will continue to employ uneducated people, and buy animals cheap, whether they be captive bred or wild caught, to make a few quick bucks.

Its such a shame, I dont think that we get that much over here because our RSPCA would be on it pronto (or what Ive noticed), but America is much bigger that the UK, so I guess its hard to keep control on chainlink stores like PetCo (no offence) , thats when good people come in and literally try to 'rescue' the poor animals

i work at a pet store chain and i was hired, even tho they didnt need me at the time, because of me herp knowledge. the animals go into quarantine first and if any illnesses arise they get taken to the vet for immediate treatment. just as an example, they spent over 200$ in vet bills for a $4 pet mouse. i do not like petco in general but u cant say that all chains are bad. btw i dont work at a petco.

I meant to say the Petco in my area. I went to another down by my school in Newport Beach, and it was AMAZING. Oh, how I wish my store wasn't dumb.
