Womas & Black headed pythons

Conserving_herps Nov 15, 2006 02:36 PM

I've been a honduran milksnake guy for several years now but I was thinking of branching out to the Womas and Black headed pythons.

I was wondering if any of you guys know of a website link that talks about Womas and blackheaded pythons, how to take care of them, how to breed them, husbandry, etc...

I breed top quality hondos but don't really know who are the womas/blackheaded python gurus out there who breed real top quality womas and blackheaded pythons in the US.

Thanks a lot for your input.

Hi Ray
I have been working with Womas for about 7 years now. They are a great snake to work with, don't get too big, have a pretty mellow disposition (unless its feeding time than all bets are off)and have no special requirements. To me they are an Australian version of lampropeltis. BH's are nice, especially the "western" morph but they get rather large for my taste.
Swing by my website www.auntievenom.com and check out some of mine. Heres a baby that I hatched out this year.

I've had a pair of Black Heads for about 4 years now. Basic husbandry is actually very simple. Breeding them is a bit tougher.

I've heard other people describe Black Heads as Giant Milksnakes. When considering the basic build of the snakes, this is pretty accurate. So if you've got a 5 foot long milksnake, image it being 8-9 feet long. That's your basic Black Head python.

My male black head python is as mellow as any snake I own. The female is a bit jumpier, but never aggressive.

As was mentioned earlier, size is an issue. BHP's need larger cages and meals than womas. If that's something you like, I'd recommend them.

I've got a few pics on my website that might be helpful.
