Earlier this year we had our female try to eat our male. After a long struggle and a bottle of rum we got him free and they were both fine. They had been together for a few weeks without incident, courting fine and everything. No idea what happened.. apparently it is decently uncommon, but it does happen. That female and male are together again now, have been copulating, have been for weeks and we've had no further problems. Wish I had some advice, but I dont know what triggers it.

Same thing happened to me .. my female tried eating my male .. after a couple days i put them back together and they bred again like nothing happened ...

To put it plainly .....
Some like it RUFF !!Its best to let them settle things when this accures.Attempting to part the two is generally when the majority of the damage will happen. Otherwise a few holes are made andnature takes over from there.
We had acouple teeth left in our female BCL after their first intro this year.

Best Of Luck

Of course only leave them alone if the situation is reasonable. Our males head was down the females throat, if he had not bitten her on the inside to keep from going down.. well, he'd have been lunch. Both are fine now, luckily!

In this case a small meal "consumed"acouple days before intro would have most likely prevented what "appeared" to be a consumption issue.
No ?

maybe there was still rat smell around?

carl3 Nov 17, 2006 08:38 PM

Try placing a shed skin from the male in with the female (and vice-versa). Not sure if it will help but maybe, just maybe the scent has something to do with it. Probably more a strong feeding response?!?!!?
