This question is by far the most UNANSWERED question on this forum. I don't recall anybody answering lately. How bout some of you breeders step up and pass along the info? I admit that this info is found in a few places in the literature, it's a matter of sorting through and digging it out. Time is a factor for me now, but it'll definitely be on the list the next time I break out my hog lit.

not age, as they grow at different rates. Check the archives or go back several pages and look, it should be in here somewhere....

Thats what I thought also. I was just regurging what I read on the hognose website. It's supposed to be a pretty good reference.

For westerns as with most NA snakes size is the biggest determining factor..

Last year my male Extreme Red Albino fathered 80 fertile eggs, he was about 15-16in in length , weighed about 80g and was 9 months old.
The safe threshold for females is about 24in and 250g, I several females now that are 350-400grams,26-30in and only 15-17 months of age.

Males: 9mths - 18mths 90g
Females: 24mths - 200g but would wait for at least 225g

Really depends on the health of the animal. Some will breed sooner than others but health is the most important.
