Feeder rat

suriname123 Nov 15, 2006 05:49 PM

I recently purchased a jumbo rat from a local reptile specialty shop here in Denver. The rat had a number tatooed on its tail.
When I questioned the manager of the store about the number, he sait it was how they tracked their breeders.
Is this a standard or did I feed my snake a used lab rat?
I am very concerned and would love to hear feed back on this.
Thanks for all your help

No way of knowing, really. Is it an albino rat? If the pet store breeds only for feeders I doubt they would bother tattooing them. If they breed more for pets of various colors and types it might be more feasible.

Yes it was an albino. I was told by someone else that this chain didn't , until recently breed their own rats and only now have small and medium rats.

Odds are it was a lab rat dumped in the pet store feeder bin. You might not want to buy rats from that store in the future.
