NY laws for venomous keeping?

eckbeerguy Nov 15, 2006 06:43 PM

Im just curious where I can find information on what permits I would need to keep a Heloderma sp. in New York(not in the city)? I could not find any information while navigating on google.

Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Thank you,
Michael

You would need to contact the NYS DEC Special Licenses unit.

I was told a few weeks ago, that they are not issuing any more dangerous wildlife or venomous reptile permits. Only those who held permits prior to the passing of the Dangerous Wildlife ban in 2004 would be allowed to keep their animals, pending application of a Dangerous Wildlife License, which costs $170/animal every 2 years.

well i think you can still get them but the permits are extremly hard to get and require a ton of paper work new york really pulled a retarded move with that bill on exotic animals

Depends whose point of view you're looking at it from. Sticter permit requirements were needed. How the bill came about, and the excuse they used to introduce it(exotic animals, at least venomous snakes aren't a threat to the public in the state) was ridiculous to say the least.
