Update on solar heating system

CDieter Nov 15, 2006 07:32 PM

We have been using the solar heating systems in one form or the other for about a month now. We have some initial results.

1: It works and works really well.

2: Don't use garden hose it clogs

3: pvc provides more coverage and doesn't clog.

4: There is alot of math(this is why you learn algebra and calculus in school) to figure the size of collector you need and theheat gain/loss per pool per collector. For larger ponds you may need several collectors which is very simple.

We have consistently kept our pools at 76-80 degrees even when the night temps dropped to the low 40's. Even if we had dropped to freezing we would be well within a safe margin.

We are using virtually no electricity in comparison to prior years and we are about to experiment with a method to seal the heat in to a much higher degree. I'll post more about this as the results come in.
