Weird coloration and swollen

I have a male veiled chameleon. Recently the top 1-2 cm. of his casque has developed a disticint change in pattern. The area of the change is also bigger/swollen? Any ideas what this could be? It is not left over shedded skin.

BTW I don't have a digital camera so I edited a picture I found to what looks extremely close to mine.
