Problem while breeding

blue_veil Nov 15, 2006 11:42 PM

Hope somebody can help. While breeding my Panthers my male somehow nicked his penis. It bled for a minute or so and had stopped bleeding before re-traction. He seems fine so far my vet said he probably got nicked by the females claw or an agressive rub on the bendy vine. She advised to monitor him for any changes but could not tell me when I could breed with him again. I have searched the net and found several instances in other reptiles where this has happened but nothing on how long before continuing to breed. Anybody ever experience this?

Although this situation has never happened with any of my chams, I can tell you that you are probably best off just waiting a few weeks before you introduce him to a female. This would allow for ample time for any wound to heal. Just keep a close eye on him and the area and make sure it doesn't get infected, etc. Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it. So far he's doing great no signs of swelling or infection. Thanks again

Glad he seems to be fine. I figure the longer you can wait to let him heal up, the better.
