female problems

magicalmorphs Nov 16, 2006 02:21 PM

One of my 2 females that is breeder size hasn't ate since sept 23rd. Is this normal for a female to quit eating so early in the season. I know they quit eating when breeding season starts because they start producing folicles ect, but it just seems too early. She was a little over 2300g and is down to 2200 gs now. She still looks very healthy and has great muscle tone. I'm just afraid she may have started fasting too soon. She gave me 7 eggs last year and all hatched. Any help will be appreciated.

Mine did the same thing sept 13 was the last she ate. I offer her food every week she refuses it. I had'nt weighed her in two months and was suprised that she only lost 100 grams. Adults will do this. She will be fine.

I was almost afraid to open a post entitled "female problems" but thought I would give it a go.

Anyway - yes it happens - last year we had a freak storm go through our area in the beginning of September and half my collection went off feed. Even though the following three months were summer type weather most remained off feed. Sometimes it just takes a slight barometric drop to set them off. Keep offering her food ever once in a while and she'll eat when she needs to.

Good luck!

I had a female stop eating last September and did not pick up again for 10 months. Her muscle tone was softer, but she only lost 140 grams over the entire ten months. Once she picked up again, her muscle tone improved and she is back to normal. That was my longest fasting experience.
