Question about size difference BCI & BCC

MacKenzie001 Nov 16, 2006 02:40 PM

After pooling over many websites and finding numerous varitations in information. I was hoping someone on here could help me out. So, here it goes:
Are Surinams, Guyanan, etc BCC?
Are BCC in general larger than BCI ( what is the average size for both)
Are all the morphs (mainly albino, anerythristic) BCI?
Are BCI hardier snakes?
Do the BCI or BCC make better pets? or any difference?
I am really interested in getting a boa as a second snake and am just wanting to make sure I get it all correct before bringin one home.
Thanks for any help, Mak

Sorry forgot a couple things, are BCI's referred to as "common boas" or BCC's. And are there any websites out there that are 100% true that I can use as a reference?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks again, Mak

Yes Suris and Guyanas are bccs
Yes bccs are bigger in general but it all depends on the snake, some bcis get really big too
Anery and albino are bci morphs. I think we'll be seeing morphs from other types of subspecies of boa too. Remember almost all the snakes imported here for a very long time were Colombians. I think my friend (Christian Clodfeletr or Redwood Reptiles) has a hypomelanistic suri. She's amazing. Only breeding will tell. I also know of a guy who has Leticas that are anery and hypo too, and there is some debate about it but he says that Leticias are bccs (Hoppy from Hopkins Holesale Herps).
I'm not sure if bcis are more hardy, maybe someone else knows.
Colombian bcis are a little more tolerant of mistakes in culture. Both make good pets when raised from babies and handled a lot. Some babies are snappier than others so pick on that isn't.
Common boas are bcis
Yes Rio Bravo Reptiles site has very good information. But remember one thing, sometimes there are differences in opinion, it isn't always just bad/conflicting info on the 'Net (although there sure is plenty of that also). There is controversy on some points of herpetoculture of boas.
Good luck,
Caden
