New Pacific Gopher snake owner

rpowersd Nov 16, 2006 04:40 PM

I have had this snake for about two months. I received it when it was 10 inches long. I was under the impression that it would have shed by now but it hasn't. I feed it a fuzzie once a week and it has definitely grown. Should I be worried? This is my first snake and I want to make sure I am doing everything correctly.

I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as your snake's eating (I know I haven't been keeping these guys that long, but I've never had a Gopher refuse a meal) and you're maintaining proper temps. I too have an '06 Pacific Gopher snake (WC W. Lancaster, CA, southern tip of its range)). In the 2 mos I've had it, the snake has shed only once. I would advise keeping a record of sheds & feedings. Just curious what's your snake's temperment like? I'd gone several years w/out encounterng a fiesty Gopher snake, and was beginning to think that tales of them, despite what my herping buddies told me, were hogwash --- til I got my little W. Lancaster, CA Pacific... Fiesty little booger. Good luck.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease. Mine is really tame. I actually found it in a neighbors house and just walked over and picked it up. It is my first snake and is ending up a great pet.
