ballfreak Nov 16, 2006 06:04 PM

i am pretty new to the ball breeding seen. i love the hobby and want to buy some other expensive morphs but i must say i really dont see these morphs selling so easily on kingsnake? im guessing you really have to show your presence at herp shows? i just find it really a tuff business not that im looking to turn it into one. but just to buy a few of the top dollar ones and make a few $$$ to reinvest. can some of you guys shed some light on this breeding business. thanks for any advice.

I think that once you build a basic rapport with other hobbyists (like on a forum,) people will buy from you. I myself am a small breeder; actually this will be the first year I have snakes that are producing hatchlings (hopefully! last year, our sole clutch went bad.) I would venture to say that I know enough people that'd be interested in buying my hatchlings.. get around, build a rapport, and customers will follow.

If you want to make some money, get a few lines of Hypos. They are in the price range that people can afford to pay cash for, and they are the best morph to cross into almost any other morph, so they will be popular with the novice, and with people who have a $100K collection that wants to ad a few female Hypos. Other than that, buy what you like, buy the females first. If you want to produce a morph, buy the heterozygous females, with a Homozygous male, if you want to produce crosses, buy the homozygous animal.
