Temperature needs for a Golden Tree Frog

veiltail Nov 16, 2006 09:54 PM

Hi! We have a golden Tree frog and we live in Florida. It is finally just now starting to cool down where we aren't using our AC (finally) and next month we may need to turn the heat on. My point is, is that it is plenty warm here and I've never even concerned myself with his/her (i dont' know how to tell gender) temperature.
So, now that it is going to get cooler -- do I need to have any additional warmth added or if I keep my house a reasonable temperature will he be ok? Once we need the heater, we have it set at 68 in our house.
Thanks in advance.

68deg is kinda low. Their optimal temp is 75-80deg during the day and 66 to 75 at night. You should get a 40 or 60 watt infrared bulb to heat the tank and a two thermometers to put in couple places in the tank. This will cost about ten bucks. Since the temp doesn't change as much in Florida, you probably can get by without a thermostat (30 bucks), but I recommend one.

If your frog is too cold for too long, it's digestion will be affected and it could die.

For more info Google "care sheet golden tree frog". A few frogs are called gold or golden, so look for the species name Polypedates leucomystax. Also look at stuff for foam frogs and four lined frogs as they are the same thing as a golden tree frog.

I have had several tree frogs and the goldens are my favorite. Enjoy!
