Is this scale rot?

longtang Aug 07, 2003 01:44 PM

Some of the WC babies I have has these bumps beneath their scale. From what I searched so far on this forum, it may sound consistent with scale rot.

They are bumps without discoloration. They are like pimples that I can pop. There is clear and slimy/thick fluid that comes out when I pop the bumps.

A. I would really appreciate some help. (I know I shouldn't buy WC because they do come with so many problems.) Is this scale rot? They are on the back and not belly.

B. what should I do to treat it?

Thx in advance. In the mean time, I will do more forum search.

This website is not an alternative to veteranarian treatment...you need to take it to a vet.

It's possible; I wouldn't guess without a picture.
Scale rot usually looks like a "Blister".
I've never had a snake with it on their back, and I would'nt mess with it if they did.

Treatment for minor cases of scale rot(on belly) that I've experienced:
Betadine Solution (Providine Iodine Solution) apply once daily for a few weeks.
Good Luck

My large female boa got this. I took her to the vet, and they said it was a bacterial infection. I had to give her a shot every 3 days, a bath in novasan every day, and put this white cream on the bumps twice a day. In all, it cost about $500 for the vet bills. It was worth it because she is kind of the family pet, so I was willing to spend whatever it took. She still has scars where the bumps were, but they go away more with every shed. Hope this helps.
