Scale Counts Determining Sex?

jswanson737 Nov 17, 2006 12:21 PM

Does anyone know the difference in tail scale counts for males vs. females in gopher snakes? I am in the process of buying a Cape Gopher, but the person can not probe, can not pop, and tail length could be a risk, the tail as of now is 127 scales. Any help would be appreciated.

i would also like to add that it is different for each subspecies but you did specify and that link is correct. I counted for my male and female baby capes and they fell within those guidelines and they had been popped prior to that. there is an obvious difference in tail tapering from the cloaca also.
