My cat was trying to investigate my leopard (at arm's length, don't worry!) and he decided he didn't like her. So he screamed. LOUDLY. She, in turn, got scared out of her socks, and actually started spitting at him. He puffed himself up and just stood there, tail swaying back and forth. It was pretty funny. She won't even look at his cage any more, if I hold her towards it, she turns her head.

Boy, it is hard to think of something, they make me laugh on a daily basis! Usually by the sleeping positions...

But most recently I gave our leopard an early holiday present and bought her one of those lizard hammocks thinking she might want to climb it... Nope. Instead she pushed her main hide underneath it and felled her fake plants over the new "entrance". She's got about a fourth of her enclosure blocked off by either the plants or the water bowl. And we haven't seen her since. Of course, the poo still stacks up and there is a lot of rustling when crickets are added... oh, and occasionally there is a fat tail hanging out of the plants. I think she likes the gift, but for all the wrong reasons.

I mean, look at her... you know she's up to something!

A few years ago, my oldest son, 13 at the time, decided to help me feed my 30 or 40 leopards at the time.
We started on opposite sides of the racks with cups of dusted crickets, opening tops of tubs and dumping in 4 or 5 crickets.

Well, out of the corner of my eye, I saw him pick a cricket from the cup to hand feed one of the smaller, geckos. Have you ever seen a leopard that is absolutely starving? It comes right up to the front of the enclosure and watches with great interest as the top opens and the bugs come in, read to POUNCE!

This must have been with this young gecko. As the cricket... and fingers went in, the leopard sprung on the object entering the cage. I can still see this in slow motion even today...... the scream, the hand retracting instinctively, the leopard hanging on to it's 'meal'. One quick shake of his hand before I could even react and the leopard was airborne.

I made the instant decision to comfort my tramatized son first and look for the leopard second. He ran out of the room holding his finger even though there was absolutely no harm done by the lizard. A couple of minutes of comfort and I returned to find the gecko slowely investigating the floor no worse for wear.

Needless to say, he has never helped me feed the lizards after this.

One of my geckos is convinced she will someday escape. Every evening after she wakes up, she wanders around the cage, stopping at the edges to stare up at the sky, dreaming of the day she will be free. Sometimes she climbs to the top of her furniture and puts her front "hands" on the glass. This is all usually pretty harmless, but once while watching her antics, she decided to jump for it. She was on top of the highest piece of furniture, both legs against the glass, balanced by her tail. Then suddenly she was airborne - she hit the top of the screen and flew back down to the floor of her enclosure with a loud thump. I freaked out and checked her right away, but she was okay. The whole thing would have been a lot more funny if she hadn't scared me to death...

She hasn't attempted that stunt since. That I know of, at least.
