RIP "Sweetpea".I had to put her to sleep today.

Really Important Post.Yeah,my girl just got worn out roaming the house for two hours and eventually climbed up my pants leg and fell asleep in my arms,so I put her to bed(in her own cage). My cage is close by though Sorry if I alarmed anyone, just wanted to liven things up.Also, she is eating two rats every other day and staying slim from the 1-2 hours of roaming the house.I actually hate to skip a day because her feeding reponse is so great with all the "out of cage time".She could and would eat 2-3 rats daily.I guess it couldn't hurt as long as she gets all this exercise and doesn't start to get obese.Any thoughts on that?

You must be kidding?? I think you need to study that a bit, I would estimate that 1 to 3 crickets put out more energy then she can burn up running about your house.

One to three rats a day, is surely a death sentence for an adult, non-productive female. Frank

What are your thoughts on that,FR?She ate much less when confined to a cage. She just seems to be hyped up after I take her outside for an hour or so in the morning. She seems to really liven up with the natural sunlight everyday.I know it's not needed, but afterwards she walks taller and faster and seems more alert(inside). She will roam for a long time if taken outside first.(I know I'm missing the point, that's why I'm asking what you think?)Fresh air?She hates planes and birds though so I try not to stress her out too much. Thanks for any input, good or bad

Actually, I have no idea what your taking about. The first post was about energy use and amount of food consumed.
The second post seems to be about how your monitor acts differently. To me, they do not relate.
If you monitor acts different outside or running loose.(how could it not) that means to me, you need to work on your cages. You know, try checking and comparing temps. You realize, outside has a larger hot spot.

You may want to think about using her out of cage behaviors as a goal when keeping her in a cage. Don't just leave the cage as is and say its different. hahahahahahahahaha, it doesn't have to be as different, but thats your problem, not the monitor. Its the same monitor reacting to different things. Frank

I doubt my own self after thinking about your great posts. You really know monitors as themselves.I,on the other hand ,treat them as pets. After many years of doing nothing but living with monitors on my terms,I think they have way more intelligence than people think. How could they(or would they)potty train them selves if they were unintelligent lizards?

FR Aug 07, 2003 04:16 PM

I don't think its about intelligence. Many species of monitors, use defication sites to make certain areas. I intentionally did not say ranges, as that is totally different.

For me, its much easier and more reliable to look for those sites then it its to find the monitors. Once you find the sites, the monitors are easy to find. But thats common field knowledge.

Everything they do is comunication, its up to you to understand they are saying. Also, everything they do is comunication to other monitors, that comes first. F

That's not nice, but FR says she's dyingGood thing all my babies have lived for 12 years without the egg laying.Maybe there's a problem with monitors that lay eggs without a male? Hmmmm..whats the point of a female(monitor)laying eggs without the male?Evolution or prostitution?

BRG Aug 07, 2003 02:59 PM

Just kidding again, but I must see new stuff besides my boring pictures of SWEETPEA.I've got other reptiles to post, but it may cause a riot
