South Florida Mole King? my guess
The saddles/spots look like the same color as my Prairie Kingsnake, but the rest of the coloring is more than then olive like mine, which is just a hatchling though. I thought my coloring was like the South Florida Mole, but Kingaz was so kind as to put me in my place and tell me it was just a plain old Prairie.

That's a mole, skipper, and juicyb, don't let anyone tell you that's JUST a prairie king, it is a KING, nonetheless, and a very nice one at that! (Some of us actually like calligasters!) I missed another by about an hour last Sunday, dor juvy male, damn it!

I agree - sometimes us Lampro fans get so caught up in getula and the tri colors, we miss out on some of the neater less commonly kept kings.
I've really enjoyed some of the prairie kings posted here.

3.3 L. getula californiae
1.0 L. getula nigrita
1.0 Boa constrictor constrictor (suriname, fostering/rescue)
2.1.2 Elgaria multicarinata multicarinata
Ok...
The first is an Eastern milk from Monticello, NY.
The second is a Outter banks King c/b
And the guess who?
Yes, a South Florida Mole King-c/b from De Soto Co. stock.

Frankster,......I'm glad you got some of your pics on the forum (you didn't waste any time I see....Ha- Ha). I kept out of the post so I wouldn't ruin the fun.............by the way, nice (sticticeps)!!!! here is a pic of my (occipitolineata)when she was two years old. She came from the "wild caught" mother Chuck H. caught back in '98 in De Soto county FL.

JuicyB,
I never said there was anything wrong with prarie kings, I love 'em. You thought the king that was sold to you as a prarie king might really be a mole king. I confirmed to you that you indeed had a prarie king (sorry I used the term "regular old"
, and then I explained the similarities and differences (taxonomically speaking). If you feel that this was "putting you in your place" well sorry. You asked for advice and I was the only one who replied. Lots of people on this site could have replied but chose not to. You will find that many people on this forum will only respond to questions posted by people who have taken the time to educate themselves about their animals. What sometimes results is that "newby" questions get answered by other "newbies". Kind of like the blind leading the blind. I have seen 12 yr olds who just bought their first snake a week ago dispensing advice on this forum.
I was a little exasperated in your original post because another new forum member thought your king looked like an eastern milksnake or cornsnake rather than a prarie king. Then you started to question whether it was a prarie king. It was a classic case of being led astray by someone who didn't know what they were talking about.
This is not "putting you in your place". I congratulate you on you new purchase. You have an awesome snake. To offer some advice, I would suggest you read up on kingsnake care and become a self educated expert on prarie kings. That is the fun of the hobby for me. Becoming really knowledgable about the animals I keep makes me a better owner and breeder. Pretty soon, you will be able to tell the differences in the different sub-species of calligaster in a heatbeat. Welcome to the hobby.
Greg
Looks like a nice prarrie to me. I have one that is more "green"
