Dumb Question

herper79 Nov 18, 2006 10:42 PM

Ok I feel like an idiot, but I need to know. Do the garden phase or cooks tre boas coil and hang on branches like the emeralds or green tree pythons? I have never seen a pic of one doing this, only green tree boas/pythons so this is why I am asking. I am looking for a display animal for a huge tropical terrarium setup, and I love seeing the green guys coiled on the branches.

Hi Nick. They do like to perch up high, but they don't have quite the visual appeal of a tightly coiled ETB or GTP. In my experiences, they seem to prefer more shelf or platform-type perches. Also, they are about as likely to be found on the ground as up high. The trade off would be that ammies are much easier to take care of and much more tolerant of mistakes, although still not beginner's snakes. What kind of experience do you have with boids and/or other arboreal species?

I used to have a trio of peruvian boa constricors, and I have a peach throat monitor in a arboreal set up. I currently have Hognose snakes (western, eastern, and mexican) Blood python, Sand Boas, Mt kings, false water cobras, and others. I just have a tall arboreal set up and I think a Tree boa would be awesome in it.

Sounds like you'll do just fine. I have seen some really cool naturalistic vivariums set up with arboreal snakes - waterfalls, real plants, misting systems, the whole works. Good luck and post pics if you go that route.
