water bottle

the_bennetts Nov 19, 2006 05:04 PM

i was wondering if there is any way to get a beardie to drink out of a rodent type water bottle thing, lol. it seems that it would be so much easier than misting my baby dragon when he could get water anytime he was thirsty instead of when i was around. so i was wondering if anyone uses this method or if it is even possible at all
thanks so much!

Can't see it happening as they drink the dew from plants etc in the wild, and some won't even drink from a water bowl as they don't recognise a standing pool as a source of moisture.

Misting I think is the most effective method, but by putting a water bowl in with your beardy, it will realise it is a bowl of water when it jumps in to investigate. Should change every day and more often if ur beardie decides to poop in it.

I also mist their greens to provide moisture too.

Hope that helps.

you could try it but i cant imagine it would work too well. i have actually trained one of my iguanas to drink out of a rodent water bottle but she still prefers her water bowl and the mistings, sometimes she will get frustrated that so little water comes out of the bottle so she will bite the end which i kind of worry about since it is metal. the easiest thing to do is just squeeze the bottle so that they can see the water dripping out of it, hopefully he will learn to lick the bottle for water to come out.

the one thing i have always wondered was, how do rodents know how to drink out of bottles, they dont need to be taught and i always thought that was strange that they instinctually do it, like there are little water bottles tacked nicely to trees in the woods that they would naturally drink from lol.

Good luck with the beardie.
