Sulcata eating fish food????

Chameleon996 Nov 19, 2006 05:40 PM

I work at a small pet store and we have a young sulcata that was given to us and we are keeping him as the store pet. He is growing nicely eating various greens topped with a pelleted food. While I am cleaning the animals I let him roam and I am able to keep an eye on him. I have noticed that he tries to eat just about anything. First he cruises over to where the birds are and searches for any bird food on the floor. Then he heds for the crickets and cleans up any oatmeal that he can find ( we use oatmeal for bedding ). His final stop is under the fish food dispenser where he thouroughly cleans up the floor. Is any of this harmful for him?

Yes it is. A sulcata should have a diet that has lower amount of proteins in it, but some protein is good as long as it is NOT OF ANIMAL ORIGIN. Everything needs protein...just you have to balance it.

A correct diet consists of grasses, hays, flowers, veggies, cactus pads/fruit etc. Weeds also...and Mazuri tortoise diet IMO.

A little bit wont kill'm, but a lot will cause renal failure...
