Sexing bloods

herper79 Nov 19, 2006 08:22 PM

Question: Can you tell a young bloods sex by tail length or spurs? I know males of other species usually have longer tails and spurs. I could go to popping or probing, but I would rather not right now because it is just settling in and pretty young.

No sex's in bloods cannot be accurately determined by tail length, they are typically more difficult to pop than other snakes as well. They call em' short tails for a reason! Females should probe 2-5, males 6-10 subcaudal scales.
