Shedding every couple of weeks?

spag Nov 20, 2006 12:08 AM

I've got a Eastern King I've had for 10 years or so. He's always been sort of a "normal" shedder I guess, couple of times a year. I recently moved though, and it seems like since I did, he's been sheeding every 2-3 weeks or so.

These aren't bad sheds, not at all. They are complete, all parts accounted for. Anyway, he just shedded two weeks ago, and I went to feed tonight, and his eyes are glazed over again!

I have another Eastern that I've had a little longer, that is in a tank right next to the male, and she has the same shed rate she's had since I've had her. Every couple of months.

Is it normal for snakes to have a sudden growth spurt? Especially that old?

Just for safety's sake I would consider giving the enclosures a good scrub, toss out any cage decor and start with fresh stuff. If they are not growing or breeding or anything else of the like, there may be something irritating their skin or a possible infection. Just one of many possibilities...
