Are macklots ophiophagus?

Croc 2-3 Aug 07, 2003 03:04 PM

I yhave a female macklots that I wish to get a mate but just wanted to make sure that she won't try to eat him or vice-versa if they are put together. she is only 5 ft. so she may need another ft or so before I actually breed her. I have space to seperate them if they are ophiophagus. as I breed king/milksnakes I'm fimilar w/ the potential for eating their mates.

I have not had any incidents while breeding my macklots, but accidents happen even to snakes not known for eating others. Especially since they have such a strong feeding response, I would not risk housing them together unless you're making breeding attempts.

They indeed have a strong feeding response and I've had to pry mine loose from eachother numerous times the first year I got them...

I now feed them separetly and wait about 30 minites after they've eaten fefore they're introduced back in the cage

Cheers,

Peter
