White Stripe Gene?

jswanson737 Nov 20, 2006 09:42 AM

I am terrible with genetics, I currently have 1.1 Everglades Rat Snakes, I am also acquiring a white stripe Everglades female, what are the chances I will eventually reproduce white stripes from the female and the normal Everglades? Oh yeah, the male is het. for albino.

I'm assuming white stripe is the same as whitesided, or ghost?

If so, it's a simple recessive trait. Which means that in order to produce white striped glades, both parents have to have the gene. So, you will never get white striped babies from breeding that female with your current male.
If you want to do that out of what you have now, you'll have to breed that female to the normal male, then either breed those offspring to each other, or back to the mother.

Unless the normal male het. albino is also het. whitesided, but the chances of that are probably pretty slim.

Exactly, white sided, not sure why I typed Stripe!?

Ok, that is what I needed to know, I thought I had heard something about a dominant gene.

Thanks for the reply.
