Ok...heres the situation, im working at a zoo in Madrid and they brought a Burmese Python. I first saw it and noticed the lack of arrowhead mark on the head and said Molurus Pimbura! But, bosses of the park insist thats its a Molurus Molurus cos thats how it came >_> tsk...but maybe im wrong...Is the Molurus Molurus and Bivittatus carriers of the arrowhead mark while Pimbura lacks? Or are there Molurus Molurus lacking the marks too?
Cheers,
Sheri

P. molurus pimbura no longer exists as a valid trinomial for molurus of Sri Lanka origin. The Sri Lanka specimens are now also classified as P. molurus molurus, and that is probably why they marked it as such. You are correct however in that bivittatus shows the full arrow marking on the head, Indian sub-continent specimens show about three-fourths as adults, and molurus from Sri Lanka can sometimes show up to half the arrow, but typically much less than that. Sounds like a Sri Lanka specimen as you stated. Please post a photo if you can. Thanks,

Kelly
