More silly diet questions

in2deep Nov 20, 2006 06:30 PM

Dozer seems to have an eating cycle going on. He pigs out one day, then doesn't move around or eat much for the next few days. Is this normal behavior, specific to the weather change or something else? He is now on day 4 without eating... I was thinking of giving him until tomorrow, then try the bee pollen if he still isn't eating.

His temps are good, as evaluated with a temp gun. The basking spot gets up to 122F, the hot end is about 100F and the cool end is about 85F.

Also, he doesn't seem to want to eat anything dusted with calcium supplement. I still haven't entirely decided if its the supplement he doesn't like or if I just happen to offer it on the days he asn't planning on eating anyway. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for the thoughts.

Here's a photo of him on his basking rock.

My uro used to eat like that. I'd offer food every day or two, and he'd stuff himself only two or three times a week. Lately, he's been pigging out almost daily.

I wouldn't really worry about it if I were you- I'm sure they never got this much food this often in the wild.

Not to worry!!! He looks in great shape. For one thing, I've only known a few Uros that could be relied on to eat somewhat predictably. For number two, look at the time of year. No matter that they're in captivity, CB or WC, they know the seasons. In their little pea-brains, it's winter & they shut down. Don't fight it or expect them to do so either. He's fine.
