corn snakes dying

corpse Nov 20, 2006 08:56 PM

I have recently obtained several sick snakes from a petstore that didn't know how to treat them. They have a green spot under the skin of their bellies that will move under the skin if pushed on. They occasionally regurge and a bunch have died. In the ones that died the green appears to have spread. Does anyone know what this is? I keep them separate from my collection but I fear they will all die if I don't do something.

Have you stopped in at the corn snakes forum? some of those people in there are the most informative and the most helpful. The only thing I could suggest is taking them to the vet. If you've already had some die and are unsure of what this is, I'd be hoofin it to the vet soon. It sounds to me like it's some form of rot. Be it scale rot or something else. But I'm not a vet or a herpatologist. I just own a corn snake, albeit a very spoiled happy corn snake, but that's the extent of my knowledge.

Cruise over to that forum and see what those guys have to say on the subject.

Hypothetically it could be crypto or a genetic malfunction of a major organ in that area.

Only way to know what is actually wrong with them is to have a vet do a necropsy on the dead ones... store the bodies in the fridge (not freezer) and get them to a vet within 24 hours.
