Hi everybody, Im new to posting but have been following your posts religiously for months. I have a 2000 g cbb03' normal female, and a cbb 05 pastel male, 500-550g. I cooled both down around mid sept, when the male was around 250-300g. This was too early because he went off feed due to cool temps and I wasnt able to get him back up to size. (lesson learned) But I raised temps back up around mid oct and hes been eating like crazy since. The female has been eating like a pig too. I kept them together for a few days at a time, seperated, fed, and done again. I witnessed ZERO locks, But the male would crawl all over her and then they would just curl up together. They have been together off an on for about two months now, and Im worried maybe the male isnt interested. Also while they used to "like" each other, now they cant get far enough away from each other. Last night they actually escaped their cage to get away from each other. Ive heard this is a sign they have already bred, but I havent seen anything and trust me ive been watching like a hawk. This is my first year breeding, so im trying to put all the tidbits of info together to be successfull. Any clues what to do from now on? I was thinking keeping them seperated for a month or so....FEED as much as they will take, RE-cool now that the male is up to size, and give it a go again. Any info or tips would be AMAZING. Thanks alot, Jeremy

I would be lieing if i said that i was an experianced breeder but i did have the snakes breed with oneanother twice. I also watched them like a hawk but i still managed to miss seeing them in the act. But low and behold she laid 2 clutches (two different years of course). But both clutches went bad. But it is very possible to miss them breeding so maybe they did already.

You have a male Ball that is closing in on TWO years of age, and he's 500g???

Yikes. He was 200g as a YEARLING? They are BORN at 70g.....so being only 200g, no wonder he wasn't breeding.

And by "cooling down"...what do you mean?

Here's the deal. I would keep doing what you are doing. Just keep taking the male out and putting him back in or in reverse however you have them set up. I usually leave them together for 2-3 days and then take the male out offer him food, If he eats then I wait another day or two before I put him back in, To let him digest his food a little before putting him back in with the female. You might want to drop the temps a bit at night, not real low just 5 or so degrees from your normal temps, Not your hot spot temps, leave them the same. I also open windows during storms that almost always get the mood set. However you never want to drop the temps lower than 75 degrees, you are just setting yourself up for respiratory problems. I have been told you only need to drop the 3-4 degrees to get them breeding. I would also say be very patient you have plenty of time to breed, If you male is 500-550 grams and on his second year he will get started when he is ready, my guess is in the next month or so. Keep us posted on you breedings.
All of these breedings have taken place within the last month or so except one I believe.

My '05 pastel bred last year at 450 g and at 6 months. He locked up with two females. This year I started early and he has just locked up with his third female and on a well deserved "time out". I noticed that if I put them in during the day, they lock up by night for me. My dumerils are the same way. Something about doing it in the dark I guess!
Keep trying, I'm sure it will work out for you!
