Had a little scare...

waspinator421 Nov 21, 2006 12:23 AM

Hello everyone... sorry I haven't posted here in a while. I've still been lurking now and then.

Lucutis gave me quite the scare today. He was giving me "sad eyes" (I know, it's all in my head ) so I gave him a shower, he usually loves his showers. Well, when I took him out of the shower he was not himself. He didn't seem to have very good balance, and was "twisting" to the left. He ended up just lying on the bottom of his cage. Right away I called the vet and they were able to get me in fairly quickly.

Funny thing is that when I got there he seemed almost back to normal, just looked real stressed. I explained what happened to the vet, and he thinks it had something to do with his inner ear, and it gave him vertigo. He had no definite answers for me, though. When I got him home he acted normal, and a few hours later I offered food, and he ate without hesitation.

I'm still keeping a close eye on him, but he seems back to his usual self. He was fine in the morning, so it lasted for less than a day. I was sure he was a goner by the way he was acting, cause I know when chams show signs of sickness it's usually too late.

The water wasn't too hot or cold, and wasn't directly hitting him. He had enough cover in his little bush to hide from it if he wanted.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm not sure... the vet mentioned that. He said he'd never heard of lizards having strokes, but that it might be possible. The only other explaination he could think of is that some how he got water in there, but that would be really hard to do.

gLAD HE IS BETTER AND HOPE IT WAS JUST SOME LITTLE CHAM QUIRK (oops, sorry 'bout caps on )

was he scratching himself at all - like they sometimes do when shed gets stuck? Maybe he swallowed water or got a nostril or eye full and was just bothered by it. Let's hope it's nothing!

No, no scratching. He was acting normal all day today, so hopefully it was just a little quirk.

Personally, I think he resented the fact that you weren't obsessing about him and posting some issue on this forum and decided to give you a bit of a nudge! Worked didn't it? ;0
