How much does my RES weigh

mistymoo Nov 21, 2006 07:59 AM

I am trying to find a formula to accurately calculate the weight of my sliders so I can treat them for internal parasites. I have found the Jackson formula for calculating the weight of some species of tortoises but this cannot be used for sliders. Anyone have any suggestions please?

The easyist way is to just put it on a gram scale.

Yes that would tell me how much they weighed but not how much was actual body weight and not shell. Any idea how to do this?
Does it matter for effective anthelmintic dosing?

Not really. Vets I've worked for just put them on the scale & prescribe by using that weight. My own pets have been given meds by using the whole weight, I've never lost one due to overmedication and the meds have always cured them. I wouldn't worry too much about shell weight for my own.
