All are nice but I really like the Mitch Allen animal. Very unique

I'd have to agree. That Mitch Allen female is hot. He produces some beautiful Thayeri. Here is an 06 female that I picked up from Mitch in Daytona. She is super clean, and I'll have to get some better, updated pics after she sheds.

Here is an 05 female I picked up from him at the show also.

different folks. Personally I don't consider that snake "hot" but I do like it. I prefer nice yellow and peach leonis over any of them and that is what I consider to be "hot". The retro thing doesn't do much for me but it doesn't hurt to have an example represented in your colony.

I was of the impression that the earth-toned (brown/tan) specimens would be more retro. Aren't the gray backgrounded ones fairly recent?

Morgan,
I don't know of any that are fairly recent. Retro is nothing new it's just a term used to describe a wild looking thayeri IMO. Line breeding programs went a long way in removing out the "wild type". There are some thayeri enthusiast on this site that really enjoy the "retro or wild type" look.

Not sure if I'm understanding your question or not so please don't take offense to my response.

Russ for me its not so much that I "like" the retro look or wild type look over so of the more colorful line bred types its just that some of these are now just becoming too common IMHO. As much as I love the VIVID peach phase leonis there are a ton of them out there. I can't help but wonder what OTHER hot types are yet to appear if we keep a little more genetic diversity in our collections. Dan V has his white line he is working on, Chris B his yellows I have my greens with split triads, you seem to have a four color thing going. The options are endless unless we lose the original diversity.

morgan_so_cal Nov 29, 2006 02:48 PM

yes, I have a whitish gray from Dan myself.

My concern was "Is brown/tan background probably the "true" wild coloration of the leonis phase?"

Ive read some posts calling greys retro as well.

glad you like it. Mitch doesn't have a website but if you live in the south you might be able to catch him at a show (Daytona or Slidell shows).
