green ratsnake hybrids?

zhivago97 Nov 21, 2006 07:46 PM

green is such a beautiful color. especially the arizona green rats, green bush snakes and many others. however, it doesn't appear that anyone is trying to develop this color by combining 2 different species. it seems like fertile territory for some really interesting color combinations.

There are hybrids between the green form of Gonyosoma oxycephala

and the all-black form of G. janseni from Seleyar.

If you search the forum archives there is a thread about this, probably on the ratsnake forum. I did not produce the hybrids.

The green one is called the Red-Tailed Green Ratsnake, although it is really more or an arboreal Racer and goes by other names as well. WC imports can be purchased for $50 to $75 each but have high mortality.

Captive hatched babies, those hatched from eggs laid by gravid imports can sell for up to $300.

True captive bred and born babies go up from there.

The silver and yellow specimens posted in the other thread are generally more expensive.

The black G. janseni don't have much of a common name. I have heard Black Jansen's Ratsnake, Seleyar Ratsnake, etc.

They are a bit harder to price. When/if I produce my first generation I can't see letting them go for less than $250, if I let them go at all.

They really are. I have basically been keeping them exclusively for the last several years and have never gotten bored with them and they never fail to amaze me when I open their cages.
