He is beautiful. Thank you for the info. I currently own a Sav. And he is like my son but a little too calm. I have a lot of monitor experience but not with blues. Do you know of a breeder? My sav was tough to tame but well worth it.

FreedomDove, I am assuming that you are in the u.s. and if so know of nobody with any cbb. Many of the true cbb end up in Europe because they are willing to pay the higher price for them. It is very possible there are some in the u.s. but since i do not run those circles, am unaware of who you should contact. I imagine others on this forum (perhaps robyn from proexotics because i believe they do some high end monitors but not sure what species) would be better suited to answer your question. Thanks, Don

That is a great picture. It is neat how the throat is all inflated. You could easily mistake that for a threatening display.

I like your cage design. I assume the tubs at the bottom hold the substrate? Its cool how you made that the entire bottom of the cage. Do you see your monitors going down there a lot?

thank you. I see how one might think it a threat posture but not in tree monitors. Actually not in any of the asian species i can think of. Since you have a sav, i can see how you would relate that though as they love to show their tonsils when threatened. Trees will simply flair their neck, turn sideways to appear bigger and then run like hell......up!

The cage design is actually a variation of my chondro caging. The bottom in in fact not substrate. It is water. It slides out for easy changing. It provides good humidity even with the screened front and wire top. Tree monitors do not need substrate. My only concern when I decided to convert the chondro cage was the screen door. It is metal screen and not nylon so they cannot tear it with their nails but I was afraid of the possibility of nose rubs. It has ,however, not been a problem and I have used this design for some time now with great results.

My line of thinking on substrate for all monitors is totally different than the line of thinking on this forum. It is an issue that I will discuss when I have time because I am sure it will cause a lot of heated discussion. Much of what I do is learned from the school of hard knocks throughout the years. I always try to think outside the box in an attempt to improve the husbandry of my animals. It is what works best for me.

thanks for the post, Don
