Folded scales?

Mark_D Nov 22, 2006 08:43 AM

Hey Everyone,

This maybe a really stupid question but:
I was handling my yearling Burm today and noticed that around 5 or 6 of his larger scales were folded.
The end of the scales were folded back underneath.... Does this happen in big snakes? Never seen it in any of my smaller ones. If anyone has had experiance with this, is there a way of correcting the scale or will it revert back to normal after his next shed?

Mark

Hi,

I did see that post, this is nothing like that.
My burm has 5 or 6 random scales, they are the large scales that run along the side of the belly scales, and they are literaly folded back.
So the end of the scale has folded underneath itself.
So it looks like only half a scale. I have no idea how this has happened.

Cheers

Mark

Hmmmm. Wish I had an answer for you.

Many years ago I had a yellow ratsnake that had a few irregular scales throughout it's body (not top row of belly scales, like yours) that worked itself out after a shed or two.

You've probably already done this; make sure they're not caused by a bad shed that left old skin on them and make sure nothing's underneath them.

As long as they're not sensitive or causing any health problems I'd keep an eye on it but not worry about and see what happens when it sheds again.

Wish I could be of more help!

Have a good one!
