Need opinions on possible new beardie enclosure...

veronicag Aug 07, 2003 05:00 PM

Hello everyone. I just recently saw a converted entertainment center that was made into an iguana home. It was sooooo cool! It had everything under the sun. Basking spot, hammock, hiding area... You'd have to see it to believe it. That inspired me to look around for a used piece of furniture to convert also. I think a small entertainment center or armoire would work best. Below is a photo of an armoire I'm thinking of buying ($125 new). It's about 5 1/2 feet tall by 3 feet wide, by 20 inches deep. I wish it was deeper, but overall it will have more floor space when I'm finished because I plan to make it two levels. My beardie will be able to climb up to warm up or climb down to cool off. I'm also hoping that this will increase his daily exercise. Please tell me what you think. I haven't bought the armoire yet ... still thinking about it.

i think that is a great idea, although this is not a beardie cage, its the same idea generally, we just love this cage....on the edges of the top those are roll down blinds like you can see on the window behind him, just works so great for The Colonel. sorry about the reflection on the plexi glass on his cage, i had the door open when i snapped the pic, the pic also i lowered the quality on it so i could upload it without deleting photos in my kingsnake account

You should have more ground area, they like places to run also...not just climb, but I'm sure you could lenghten it, otherwise it looks really good. Good idea on the levels too.

i think with 2 levels of ground area tho it would be plenty for a dragon, plus a slant flat peice of wood to climb to a different level i think there would be plenty of room to roam around JMO

You just gave me a solution to a problem I have. I just recently moved my cages around and one cage gets too much light from the room next to it. I can put roll down blinds in the front of the cage to block out the light. It looks good too. Just have to find the right size.

Thanks!

I LOVE that place! All those toys. When I was in Europe I didn't see any stores like home depot, but then, I wasn't looking for that kind of a place for sightseeing either. Heehee.

Arrival is mid-day this Sunday AND THEN ... Daytona on Friday!

Wow, that looks nice and great price too. I think it will be workable. I've seen where people put a ledge around the perimeter (only 3 sides) to give the beardie more places to go and roam around.
