symptoms: yellow skin?

sleepofapples Nov 22, 2006 12:11 PM

i just recieved two tree frogs from our supplier today (for a pet store) and they look terrible.. one of them is doing better than the other, it is at least alert and active.. the second one has no reflex in his legs, rolls over and distends them frequently and both have yellow bellies (they should be white).. i havent ever seen the yellow skin thing before and have no idea where to start as far as treatment goes.. i dont think the second one is going to make it, but i think the first one might if i can figure out what is wrong with them. any suggestions? kidney failure maybe? i also need to know if it is something contagious.. i have them set up individually in critter keepers with damp paper towels for now.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

they might just need to shed, mist them a lot! good luck with them, i hate it, shipped frogs always come in looking thin.

Yeah I generally would rather purchase frogs that are local and that you are actually able to get a good look at, even handle, as opposed to getting shipped frogs. But, most of the time, the only way to obtain certain species is by mail.

i am the reptile manager at a petstore ...they were ordered for the store not myself... they are called "vietnamese green treefrogs" although they are more blue than green... im not sure of the actual species..the closest thing i can find online that resembles them is polypedates dennysi... i believe that they are something recently discovered or introduced to the trade because they are suddenly everywhere (some adds on kingsnake too) Reptile depot has them, etc... almost certainly wild caught... i took them home and kept them in individual critter keepers with a heat pad, damp paper towels, water dish and a fake plant in each... the thinner one died after a day and the other one pulled through but still looks thin.... i have been misting him down with a dilute tetracycline mix twice a day and he seems to be improving ... my main concern is that it might be contagious..
