MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS (UK) 17 November 06 Jailed: Yob who fed bunny to alligator
Damien French, 20, was found guilty of animal cruelty in April after throwing the rabbit to its death at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, north Wales.
Witnesses told how French, originally from Manchester, plucked the rabbit from a petting area and fed it to a large male alligator called Albert, who immediately clamped the creature between his jaws.
When a young girl entered the alligator house and asked: "Is that a rabbit?", French laughed as his friend replied: "It was. It was running around 10 minutes ago."
French was given a six-month prison sentence but walked free from Llandudno Magistrates' Court as it was suspended for 12 months.
Animal-lovers were outraged at the "soft" sentence and French was forced to move from his home in Colwyn Bay after receiving death threats.
