How Aggressive can Boa's be

chili_con_parmi Nov 23, 2006 10:21 AM

Hello,

I'm not new to reptiles or snakes but I am to Boas. I bought a young boa; the breeder said it was a common boa. It is out a foot long. I did research housing and care first before buying and although they grow to a large size I was satisfied that a Boa was for me.

Now though I am having second thoughts, people keep telling me that these can get really aggressive and have told me of stories of Boa keepers being killed by their pets.

Is this true, how aggressive can these get, does any one have experience of been bitten or attacked by their Boa and are these good snakes to keep as pets?

Thanks for any replies

if you get killed by a BCI you did something REALLY wrong. they can give a nasty bite, but if they are handled, fed and housed properly you shouldnt have a problem.

Ok so the chances of me dying are slim and if I get bitten its more than likely going to be my fault. Sounds good. Im starting to feel better about it now. It is the most beautiful snake I have seen so Im glad it is not AS dangerous as people are telling

Thanks

If you say "boa" to the general public they automaticly have flashbacks to "anaconda".

Just expect to get bit atleast once or twice, but life goes on.

...of all the snakes ive ever owned boas have always been the least likely ones to bite...especially the common boas...i have a huge female (for a boa)that is over 9 feet long and weighs 60 lbs. and she is extremely powerful but i can still handle her...boas are not aggresive snakes a lot of strikes are bluffs and usually its just a bunch of huffing and puffing(cute when their little but it gets a little intimidating when they get big)....handle your boa a lot and you should have a great pet...

...boas rule!
