06 (integrade?) hatchlings

redmoon Nov 23, 2006 10:56 AM

This isn't an attempt to rehash the whole thread from a few days ago, just thought I'd put up some new pics of my babies from this year. The mother is a brindle black rat, and I suspect the father is an obsoleta x guttata cross.

This is the first to hatch, a little girl.

Here's #2, a boy.

And #3, a girl. This one I'm holding back. I'm anxious to see how she'll turn out as an adult.

I read the thread the last time you posted photos of these pups. They are great looking little snakes. I still see nothing in their pattern to indicate there is any guttata in them. If anything, they look more like Gray Rats. Also keep in mind that some eastern Black Rats as adults are dark brown and not the classic black.

Since both the mother and the father of these pups were both non wild types, you may never know what was crossed with what, but why do you care? You didn't seem to want a normal looking snake when you purchased the parents.

Be happy that you have a brood of healthy little American Rat Snakes, and congratulate yourself for your success in your snake breeding.

Below is a Gray Rat Snake. Note that his pattern is much like the pattern that your snakes are showing.
