How are upper respiratory infections in snakes treated? What is it caused by, will it go away on its own, can it be transmitted from one snake to another?

Yes, It can be spread to other animals.URI's are usually either bacterial or viral in nature. You can treat mild cases by raising the temp at the high end to around 90-92 degrees, keep dry,and eliminate any undo stresses such as handling.More severe cases, or if it persists, should be treated by a vet with antibiotics.

I second that opinion. Sometimes a snake recovers with the aid of raised temperatures. The antibiotics my vet prescribes for respiratory infections are the injectable type.

Inquire with your vet about using Baytril. It can be given orally using a dropper. Just have to figure out the proper dosage based on the size of the animal.
