Eye Caps

BedHeadRedhead Nov 23, 2006 09:48 PM

A few days ago, I was scheduled to feed my Emory, but his eyes were clouded over for a molt. Oddly, he had just finished shedding 3 weeks earlier. Today, his eyes were clear and his scales were bright & shiny, but there's no old skin in his tank. Did he finish his weird early molt and just eat the skin? Or is there another reason for snakes to have eye caps?

Either way, is it safe to feed him yet? He's about four days overdue, and I made him a special Thanksgiving dinner (by feeding cranberries and dressing to the rat). LoL

Snakes clear up and look really pretty right before they shed. It is due to the liquid that builds up between the new skin underneath the old skin, separating them. Your snake is just about to shed, if it hasn't by the time you read this.
