painted turtle male or female???

MiGuel35 Aug 07, 2003 05:59 PM

ok i thought i was going to wait for a painted but im going to have my first pond up soon and i, found an online breeder which is near my area, should what should i look for, i wanted an eastern but i havnt seen any good places to get one, so this breeder has Westerns, last time everyone told me that they would do fine with my other turtles.
I'm wondering if i should look for a male or a female?

Would a mle false map turtle and a male western painted be territorial over eachother?

Would i have trouble with fighting trying to mate with my female RES?

I dont really mind either but i think i want a male since they have the smaller sizes than the possible 10" female. my false mape isnt really the type to be fighting since he is the quick moving one who knows how to steal some food from the female RES.
so my main question is that would a male false map turtle and a male western painted turtle be cool together?, im planning on getting one in the next couple of weeks or so.

yeah they'd be fine
but the painted will try to mate with the feamle RES so don't be surprised.
also if you want the map healthy i'd do everything you can to keep the water clean
lots of people have problems keeping graptemys in ponds as the water tends not to circulate well and can be dirtier than people think
