mini brumation for non-feeders

xblackheart Nov 24, 2006 12:45 PM

I have tried just about everything for these 4 snakes that I have (2 corns, 2 arizona mountain kings). I had heard you can do a mini brumation and see if they will eat when they come out. Can anyone tell me what would be long enough of a cool down for babies? These snakes have kept a good weight (as I have been force feeding), so they are healthy enough to brumate. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone does it different, I do a 6 - 8 week cooling period and they usually come out of that hungry. I just slowly drop the temps til it hits 50-56F. Leave it like that for 6 weeks. I use a week or more to lower and a week or more to raise it back. That's just what I do and it has worked for me. Hope I could help...have a good Turkeyday weekend all!

last year i brumated 3 non feeding thayeri. i cooled them from december to february at around 58-60degrees. they came out of it hungry and eating. i have several that i will do this with this year. i am not sure that you have to cool them that long. i just did it that way with my adults. good luck.
